Artist Bio

Sheanni Ravelé Sims was born under the imaginative constellations in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Later, she planted roots in Florence, South Carolina to be raised by a pack of women, her grandmother, mother, and aunt. Being raised by three women gave Sheanni the push to put forth a world of her own to incubate, intersect, and heal her inner femme.

She is now an Art Director whose practice highlights the experiences of Black & brown gender expansive women and their capacity to impact the world through her art form. Sheanni’s creative catalog includes fine arts, along with expressionism and design. As a soon-to-be 2027 graduate of Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she’s studying Liberal Arts.

Sheanni also remained consistent with her passion for fine art & visual design. Sheanni has facilitated “Art Meditations” at Housing Works Youth & Prevention Services, where she taught the skill of painting to queer youth in Brooklyn, New York City. For almost a decade, Sims has dedicated her time to workshopping and showcasing her support to those who seek to explore the intersections of art, liberatory mental health, and well-being. Sheanni has also actively designed & hosted her “Paint & Chews” event at Black Trans Liberation Kitchen, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending homelessness and food insecurity within the trans population.

Sheanni's work highlights surrealism, queer black lifestyles, femininity, and masculinity while also challenging Western concepts within futurism and social constructs. Since she was a child, she’d spend most of her time working with her hands, drawing & self expression. These expressions focused on friendship, teamwork, and community, which are themes that clearly continue to inspire the artist.
